Project Description

London Regatta Centre, originally designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, opened in 2000 and is currently operated by the Royal Albert Dock Trust.

Working with London Borough of Newham, Sport England UK, London Youth Rowing and The Sea Cadets, DMWR Architects has re-designed the internal layout and added two extensions to improve accessibility and circulation for the building users. The brief to DMWR was to prepare a layout that separated the Watersports facilities from the Gymnasium, allowing the latter to be let to a commercial gym operator. Better entrance points were also designed to give each facility its own identity. The main proposed extensions were deliberately low, single storey, to avoid breaking through the first floor projecting terrace level.

DMWR Architects submitted a Full Planning Application on behalf of the Royal Albert Dock Trust for the two single-storey extensions, and have lead the architectural delivery of the project.
